Here are a few things that you can do to make sure that you stay on budget.
One of the things you want to make sure is that you’ve got time for all the other activities that move a project forward.
This would be things like:
- planning
- user experience design
- information or architecture
- project management and communications
- quality assurance
A website can be built fairly quickly, but it’s the content population. The writing, editing, image creation that usually takes the longest. So that’s something that you’ll want to get started on as soon as possible.
Do you have them?
Make sure you have clear acceptance criteria.
- visual design
- functionality
- subjective elements
- difficult to describe elements
If you’re working towards a certain indescribable something. I’ll know when you see it approach – that’s another way that your budget can be completely blown.
Sometimes budgets are created from a long list of requirements without an excellent idea of what the overlying goal is.
That’s kind of like giving somebody a recipe, a list of ingredients without telling them what they’re cooking be.
